Ravichandran Ashwin has been named as a replacement for Axar Patel in India’s World Cup squad. This is a major boost for India’s spin bowling attack, as Ashwin is one of the most experienced and successful spinners in the world. He is also a capable bat at number 8, providing India a much needed batting depth if India choose to field 3 spinners.

Ashwin has been in excellent form in recent months, taking 44 wickets in his last 10 Test matches. He is also a very good white-ball bowler, and he has taken 155 wickets in 115 ODIs at an economy rate of 4.94.

Patel, on the other hand, has been struggling with injuries in recent months. He missed the recent ODI series against Australia due to a quadriceps strain, and he is not expected to be fit for the start of the World Cup. Ideally, he will need another 3 weeks rehab.

Ashwin’s inclusion in the squad is a major boost for India’s spin bowling attack. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are the other two spinners in the squad, and they are all world-class bowlers. However, Ashwin’s experience and versatility will be invaluable to India in the World Cup, 2023.
