In an act of sporting brilliance, the Indian cricket team, under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, scripted a new chapter in the annals of cricket history on August 1. An emphatic victory over the West Indies in the final match of the ODI series by a colossal margin of 200 runs cemented their global stature further.

Emerging victorious in the last game of a three-match One Day International series, the Indian team etched their name in the record books with their 13th consecutive series win against the West Indies. Victory in the ODI series decider in Trinidad empowered India to fortify their global record. Their impressive 13 series victories against the West Indies, both home and away, have catapulted India to unprecedented heights in the world of cricket. Second to India’s record stands Pakistan, who have managed 11 series wins against Zimbabwe. India’s winning streak against the West Indies has been unbroken since 2007, paralleled only by Pakistan’s streak against Zimbabwe since 1996.

Pakistan has also had a steady winning stream against the West Indies, registering ten successive ODI series wins from 1999 to 2022. Simultaneously, India holds the record for the highest number of consecutive series victories against Sri Lanka, not losing a single series to them from 2007 to 2023.

In terms of continuous bilateral ODI series wins against a single team, the record stands as follows:

  • 13 – India vs West Indies (2007-23)
  • 11 – Pakistan vs Zimbabwe (1996-21)
  • 10 – Pakistan vs West Indies (1999-22)
  • 10 – India vs Sri Lanka (2007-22)

Apart from this, India’s 200-run victory is their second-largest against the West Indies in terms of runs. Their biggest win came in Mumbai in 2018 when they beat the Windies by 224 runs. This win continues their track record of significant victories, having beaten the West Indies by 160 runs in 2007 and 153 runs in an ODI in 2011.

Ishan Kishan’s impressive performance during the 20th over played a pivotal role in India’s victory. Before being dismissed by Hayden Walsh Jr, Kishan managed a remarkable 77 runs off just 64 balls. Partnering with Shubman Gill, they forged a formidable opening partnership of 143 runs, marking the highest opening stand for India in an ODI against the West Indies. This game saw Kishan scoring his third consecutive ODI half-century, making him the sixth Indian player to score 50 or more runs in each match of a three-game ODI series.

The last individual to achieve such a feat was Shreyas Iyer, who managed this against New Zealand in 2020, marking another milestone in India’s cricket history.
