Dinesh Karthik jestingly took aim at the Bangladesh cricket team when an unusual incident interrupted play during the 2023 Lanka Premier League match.

Cricket matches being interrupted by the unexpected arrival of animals on the field is no surprise, with instances including anything from avian to feline, even canine intruders. Yet, an encounter in the 2023 Lanka Premier League between the Galle Titans and the Dambulla Aura took an unusual turn when a snake slithered onto the pitch, bringing laughter among players and commentators alike. The game was paused during Dambulla’s fifth over while the officials managed the unexpected reptilian guest. Galle Titans’ renowned Shakib Al Hasan was seen engaging in animated dialogue with the batter, trying to make sense of the extraordinary circumstances.

This uncommon occurrence prompted Dinesh Karthik, a seasoned figure of Indian cricket, to humorously jab at the Bangladesh cricket team. “The naagin is back. I thought it was in Bangladesh,” he posted on Twitter, alluding to the controversial “Naagin dance” celebration that has drawn criticism from several competing teams.

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023, scheduled to run from July 30 to August 21 in Sri Lanka, will be graced by international cricket stars such as Babar Azam, Shakib Al Hasan, and David Miller. The forthcoming season also promises appearances from prominent Sri Lankan figures like Thisara Perera, Wanidu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, and team captain Dasun Shanaka, with matches taking place in two arenas–Colombo and Kandy.

Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, Founder and CEO of IPG Group–the official rights holder of the LPL–expressed his pleasure about Star Sports being announced as the official television broadcaster for the tournament’s fourth edition. “Since the LPL’s inception, it has not only offered a thrilling brand of cricket but also steadily fostered Sri Lanka’s cricket talent. With dedicated stakeholders like Star Sports, we’re thrilled to offer global cricket fans not only a chance to witness an extremely competitive and riveting style of T20 cricket, but also to enjoy unparalleled non-live cricket content across India, Sri Lanka, the subcontinent, and the MENA region,” Sankhdhar remarked.
